Shell has announced the chartering of a new LNG bunkering vessel, which is being built in Spain, in order to expand its LNG marine bunkering business.
“Shell plans to double its existing LNG bunkering infrastructure in key international trade lanes by the mid-2020s and this vessel will play an important role in that journey as we serve more customers across our global network with LNG,” said Tahir Faruqui, managing director of Shell Global Downstream LNG.
Shell has recently expanded its global LNG bunkering network with the arrival of the FueLNG Bellina bunkering vessels to Singapore and the Q4000 barge to the east coast of North America, increasing its global LNG bunkering fleet to six vessels.
Shell aims to become a net-zero emissions energy company by 2050 or sooner, and believes that LNG is the essential first step in decarbonizing the maritime sector.
