ICTSI inaugurates new dock in Puerto Cortés Honduras: To date, OPC has already invested more than USD 250 million as part of its 30-year commitment to the operation of the Container Terminal and Specialized Cargo in Puerto Cortes.

The greenfield development of USD 145 million, which represents the first phase of the expansion work of OPC in Puertos Cortes, adds another 350 meters of quay to the existing 800 meters and a depth of 14 meters.

The port operator International Container Terminal Services (ICTSI) recently inaugurated a new pier in Puerto Cortés, which will add more space for the container ship giants.

The new installation of Pier 6, operated by the subsidiary of ICTSI Operadora Portuaria Centroamericana S.A. of C.V. (OPC), is expected to further strengthen the country’s position as the main logistics center in Central America.

OPC is now the only port in the Central America-Cuatro region (CA-4) capable of receiving the largest container ships that sail the main commercial routes in the Atlantic thanks to two of its new super post-Panamax cranes, which also They increased the operating annuity. Terminal capacity by 50 percent to 1.4 million units equivalent to twenty feet (TEU).

In addition to the completion of the first phase, more large-scale projects are already being prepared for the coming years, including the construction and expansion of the container yard, and the implementation of advanced port technologies for greater efficiency, ICTSI reported.
