Hapag-Lloyd launches its first dry container tracking system

Hapag-Lloyd introduced a groundbreaking service this week, enabling clients to track dry containers in real-time “door-to-door.” The company confirmed that its new “Live Position” feature has been integrated into two-thirds of its container fleet, with plans to outfit the remaining third by the end of 2024. This innovative system provides customers with complete transparency regarding their shipments’ locations from departure to arrival, encompassing all segments of maritime, rail, and truck transportation. Customers can search for cargo by container, booking number, or in batches. This initiative is believed to be the industry’s first fleet-wide dry container tracking system, as previous efforts primarily focused on refrigerated containers. In addition to container location, Live Position displays inland travel distances and offers updated estimates of shipment arrival times. Access to this feature is available through the Tracking application in Hapag-Lloyd’s Online Business Suite.
