Evergreen’s Quarterly Operating Profit Surpasses USD 1 Billion
Evergreen Marine Corp (EMC) achieved impressive results in the second quarter, doubling its operating profits compared to the first quarter of the year, marking its strongest performance in seven quarters.
Although EMC added a relatively modest 27,000 TEU in capacity between the two quarters, the company reported a significant 20% increase in revenue compared to January-March, reaching TWD 106.3 billion (USD 3.3 billion). In contrast, operating expenses for the Taipei-based carrier only rose by 1% during the same period.
This combination led to a robust operating profit of TWD 32.7 billion (USD 1.0 billion) for Q2, more than double the TWD 15.6 billion recorded in Q1, and three times the TWD 10.1 billion reported a year earlier.
This result is reminiscent of the pandemic era, when transpacific operators experienced dramatic profit increases. As of the end of July, EMC operated 34% of its fleet on Far East to North America routes and 37% on Far East to Europe services.
This marks EMC’s most profitable quarter at an operating level since Q3 2022, significantly surpassing any previous profit outside of the COVID-19 period.
