The German shipping company Hapag-Lloyd has signed a charter or space chartering agreement with the members of 2M Alliance – Maersk and Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC). The purchase of space improves the frequency of services offered by the line will give Hapag-Lloyd access to selected 2M services in the Asia-North European trade.
“The addition of these services will allow Hapag-Lloyd to offer an even higher frequency of weekly departures and more routing options, as well as serving directly to additional ports with high schedule reliability,” the company said.
The expanded offer of operator products in Europe-North Asia trade will begin in March 2020 and additional details will be provided in the coming weeks.
Earlier this month, Hapag-Lloyd revealed that he was considering investments in new ships. Orders are likely to target ultra-large container ships (ULCV) with a capacity of up to 23,000 TEUs, with the company following in the footsteps of its rivals CMA CGM and MSC that have already deployed some of their boxing giants in Europe-Asia route.
In spite of the current overcapacity situation of the containerized market, the decrease in the demand for world trade and the new environmental regulations for emissions, the lines remain in the competition to fulfill contracts, minimize operating costs and carnivorice sea freight.
