To commemorate the @40th Anniversary of the WMU, on March 28, 2023, the Chilean Alumni of the WMU met at the Centro MET de Chile “CIMAR” in Valparaíso. This historic event brought together the graduates of the classes 1985 – 2022.
WMU President Dr. Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry, WMU President-designate Professor Maximo Q. Mejia, and WMU staff, including Chilean graduates working abroad, also attended the event virtually.
As a maritime country, Chile shares a rich history linked to the oceans and, later, to the UMM since its founding back in 1983. For this reason, a commemorative plaque with the names of all Chilean graduates was delivered at the ceremony to honor history shared and encourage future generations to continue growing in their professional interest by joining our alma mater.
In addition to the unique and dynamic path of tradition and excellence sustained by WMU for the last four decades, the most relevant story will be the one yet to be written in our future, and LATAMA – Latin American Alumni Association of the World Maritime University will take an active part in that challenge.
It was an emotional and nostalgic event, full of great memories and stories to tell. We look forward to hosting all of our graduates from around the world in June at the WMU @40 Conference.
