Wan Hai orders 12 new feeders
Wan Hai orders new feeders: According to World Maritime News, the Taiwanese container transport company Wan Hai Lines has placed an order for up to twelve 1,900 TEU container vessels with two shipyards.
Japan Marine United has been chosen to build six units plus two optional ones, while CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding has been commissioned to build four firm container ships, with the option of building two more, according to Asiasis shows.
WMN reported that the order was notified one year after Wan Hai Lines canceled a shipbuilding contract for eight 1,900 TEU feeders, ordered from the Japanese shipping company Naikai Zosen. The feeders were scheduled to join the company’s fleet in 2018.
The ships will be built in accordance with the IMO Tier II specifications and are ready for delivery in 2020.
The agreement was canceled due to changes in the rules of new construction and environmental regulations, explained Wan Hai.
At the time of signing the contract, Wan Hai said the order was worth between USD 212 million and USD 326 million.
