early thursday, Israel executed a series of airstrikes targeting Latakia, a notable port city in northwestern Syria.

Local sources indicate that the strikes focused on areas surrounding Latakia’s port and an old military base linked to the 110th Naval Brigade, which was under Assad’s control. Additionally, munitions storage facilities near Al-Abyad Port were also hit. Currently, officials are evaluating the damage caused; though, there have been no confirmed reports of casualties.

The Syrian Defense Ministry has yet to issue any formal comments regarding these airstrikes. In another development, Israeli forces conducted operations in Daraa province located in southern Syria. reports suggest that six individuals lost their lives during an Israeli military action in Koya, a town within western Daraa.According to Israeli statements, these artillery and aerial assaults were responses to gunfire originating from Syrian territory.

Since the fall of Assad’s regime years ago, Israel has taken over parts of the Golan Heights’ demilitarized zone—a region onc meant as a buffer between Syria and Israel—raising concerns about violations against the 1974 disengagement agreement between both nations.Over time, Israel has carried out numerous airstrikes across Syria aimed primarily at military installations and missile defense systems.

Israeli officials argue that such actions are crucial for preventing advanced weaponry from reaching groups thay consider threats to national security.

Meanwhile, with Ahmed al-Sharaa now leading Syria’s transitional government after opposition forces took Damascus last December—forcing assad into exile—the new administration has not yet commented on ongoing Israeli attacks. Al-Sharaa is recognized as an influential figure within anti-Assad circles as his rise to power earlier this year.

On another front related to international relations: the Biden administration is contemplating easing some economic sanctions on Syria as part of efforts to assist its new leadership with reconstruction initiatives post-conflict. In exchange for this support:

– Complete dismantling of remaining chemical weapons stockpiles from Assad’s era
– A prohibition on foreign fighters operating within Syrian borders
– Collaboration on counterterrorism measures
– Help locating missing journalist Austin Tice who vanished ten years ago while covering events in Syria

Reports indicate that Israeli forces have been making frequent incursions beyond established lines into southern Syrian territories lately.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu continues advocating for demilitarization along regions bordering Golan Heights occupied by Israel—a situation reflecting ongoing tensions and complex geopolitical dynamics at play in this area.
