Vale Expands Fleet with Acquisition of 50 New Locomotives

BRAZIL: Vale, a prominent mining firm, has placed an order for 50 diesel locomotives from Wabtec to enhance its operations and reduce carbon footprints along the Vitória a Minas and Carajás railways.

This announcement, made on March 26, includes a total of 36 EVOBBW models for the EFVM line and another 14 ES58ACi units designated for EFC.

The new locomotives will run on biodiesel, with plans in place for Vale and Wabtec to explore increasing biodiesel usage in future tests.

Designed with wide cabs, these locos promise better comfort and ergonomics while also simplifying maintenance access to onboard systems.

The manufacturing of these locomotives will take place at Wabtec’s facility in Contagem, with deliveries expected by the year 2026.
