In a significant move, Ukraine’s national railway, Ukrzaliznytsia, has partnered with Bulgaria’s Express Service to enhance its operations. They’ve inked a €6 million deal for the delivery of ten battery-operated shunters along with essential spare parts.

the new ES3000 shunters are designed to handle hefty loads—up to 3,000 tonnes—while cruising at speeds reaching 15 km/h. This upgrade is set to modernize the rail system and improve efficiency.

The timeline for these deliveries stretches from the third quarter of 2025 through late 2026, marking a crucial step in revitalizing Ukraine’s rail infrastructure.

This initiative is part of broader support from the European Bank for Reconstruction & Growth aimed at bolstering Ukrainian railways in light of challenges posed by ongoing conflicts.
