Taiwan’s High-Speed Rail Unveils Innovative Interior Design Concepts

TAIWAN: Taiwan High Speed Rail Corp has teamed up wiht the Hitachi Toshiba Supreme Consortium to finalize the interior design for twelve Series N700S high-speed trains, a project valued at NT$28 billion that was initiated in May 2023. The agreement, signed on March 17, paves the way for production to kick off.

The revamped interiors will feature modern amenities like charging stations and an upgraded shock absorption and noise reduction system similar to those found in Japan’s advanced train models.

changes have also been made to family-kind facilities; nursery areas now include redesigned sinks,coat hooks,and baby seats. Additionally, there will be six designated wheelchair spaces equipped with securement features for enhanced accessibility.

This new fleet is being introduced not just to meet rising passenger demand but also to streamline maintenance efforts. these trains will complement the existing Series 700T sets that have been operational since services began in 2007. THSRC has aimed to acquire these twelve trainsets since as far back as 2019, although two previous attempts were scrapped.

The first deliveries are anticipated in late 2026, with commercial operations expected by mid-2027.
