U.S. Military Actions Intensify in Houthi-Occupied Sanaa

Another night of airstrikes has unfolded in Sanaa, Yemen, as U.S. forces target the Houthi rebel group. Earlier that day, the Houthis launched two ballistic missiles aimed at Israel, showcasing their ongoing ability for long-range strikes.

Reports from the ground suggest that recent American airstrikes have struck both Sanaa’s airport and a key military base for the Houthis located in the city centre.

This round of strikes appears to be more aggressive than previous operations conducted by earlier administrations. According to an AP analysis, satellite imagery and intercepted communications indicate a important buildup of bomber aircraft at Diego Garcia—a strategic U.S.-leased base in the Indian Ocean. The deployment of seven B-2 stealth bombers—representing a third of their total fleet—has sparked discussions about potential escalations not just against Houthi targets but possibly even towards iran itself. Notably, these B-2s can carry the Massive Ordnance Penetrator (MOP), which is designed to penetrate deep underground bunkers and command centers with it’s impressive weight of 30,000 pounds.

If these strikes considerably impact Houthi operations, it wouldn’t be unprecedented; past attempts by U.S.-backed forces over nearly ten years have failed to diminish their influence despite considerable financial investments. The houthis have consistently adapted and fortified their positions throughout this conflict.

“Historically speaking, we’ve seen leadership within the Houthi ranks taken out before onyl for them to bounce back stronger,” noted Vice Adm. Kevin Donegan (USN ret’d) when speaking with AP. “This isn’t just a one-time fix; it’s an ongoing challenge.”
