Maersk invests in methanol technology
Maersk Growth, the venture capital arm of the Maersk Group, will invest in a Berlin-based fuel technology start -up, C1, which aims to cut the cost of methanol production. Maersk currently has 19 dual fuel methanol newbuildings on order with delivery starting in 2024. C1 is working on an ‘ultra-efficient catalysis’ to increase methanol production volumes and reduce costs. Maersk confirmed back in October that it was prepared to sign take-off deals and even invest its own money to get fuel projects off the ground, though it intended to remain at core a logistics provider.
