Hapag-Lloyd Completes Record Bio-LNG Bunkering

Hapag-Lloyd recently conducted its largest ship-to-ship bunkering of liquified biomethane (LBM) on its maxi-neo-panamax container vessel, BRUSSELS EXPRESS, at the Port of Rotterdam. The vessel, with a capacity of 14,600 TEU, received 2,200 metric tons of bio-LNG from Titan Clean Fuels. The biofuel was supplied by the tanker ALICE CONSULICH at Rotterdam’s ECT Delta terminal, managed by Hutchison Ports. This bunkering operation signifies Hapag-Lloyd’s foray into liquified biomethane, a sustainable alternative to LNG, aligning with the German carrier’s commitment to achieve net-zero emissions by 2045. Titan Clean Fuels, in collaboration with the STX Group, is responsible for liquefying and storing mass-balanced biomethane in Zeebrugge, Belgium, with production certified under the ISSC certification, recognized by the EU’s Renewable Energy Directive RED II.
