Greenlane Launches Technology Suite for Charging Sites

First Interstate 15 Charging Facility for DTNA Joint Venture Due Online in April

Truck refueling specialist Greenlane introduced a suite of technology products March 11 intended to support customers at the joint venture’s first facility.

Daimler Truck North America-led Greenlane’s flagship battery-electric truck charging site in Colton, Calif., is under construction and expected to open in April rather than before the end of 2024 as previously expected.

The Colton facility will be Greenlane’s first step toward a nationwide buildout of refueling options for battery-electric and hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles — a planned Interstate 15 charging network.

In advance of the unveiling of the Colton site, Greenlane launched an app and portal for drivers and fleet managers, respectively, as well as application programming interfaces to allow the company’s products to interact with other software systems on the truck.

“As heavy-duty transportation continues to electrify, we need to address fleet manager and driver pain points,” said Patrick Macdonald-King, Greenlane CEO. “One of our visions has long been to provide the truck stop of the future, and a big part of that starts with seamless planning and logistics technology and connecting these technologies to existing systems companies already have in place via application programming interfaces.”

The Greenlane Driver app will offer drivers real-time information on available charging stations along their routes, allowing them to make reservations or manage slots booked by fleet managers.

Greenlane Fleet Portal will allow fleet managers and dispatchers to manage routes for their trucks and manage reservations.

The company’s OnRamp APIs and a new website complete the product suite.

Greenlane’s Colton site will form an initial I-15 corridor alongside facilities in Barstow and Baker, Calif. Eventually, the corridor will run 280 miles from southern Nevada to Los Angeles, according to the company.

And the company expects to have up to 20 sites lined up for development by the end of 2025.

Greenlane won a $15 million grant in September from the South Coast Air Quality Management District to expedite construction of its flagship facility. Meanwhile, the more than 10-megawatt charging facility in Barstow will receive $26 million from the federal government.

The Colton site will comprise more than 40 chargers when it opens for heavy-, medium- and light-duty zero-emission vehicles, with the eventual aim to offer 60 chargers.

Later, Greenlane plans to add solar panels and battery storage systems at the site to enhance grid stability, manage peak loads and increase energy efficiency.
