Crowley Enhances Puerto Rico’s Terminal Resilience Through LNG-Powered Microgrid Solutions

Crowley, the oldest logistics provider in Puerto Rico, is stepping up its game at the Isla Grande terminal in San Juan by introducing a microgrid powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG). This cutting-edge energy solution aims to bolster the terminal’s resilience and ensure smooth operations.

The new microgrid will deliver a steady power supply for various daily activities at the terminal, including running equipment, maintaining refrigerated containers, and supporting administrative tasks. By utilizing LNG, Crowley is set to offer cleaner and more affordable energy compared to what’s typically available from the public grid. This move not onyl enhances operational efficiency but also strengthens Puerto Rico’s overall supply chain.

Matt Jackson, Crowley’s VP of advanced energy, shared his enthusiasm: “This LNG-powered microgrid represents a notable leap forward for our San Juan operations. It guarantees that we can keep things running smoothly no matter what challenges arise.” He emphasized that this initiative reflects their commitment to innovative energy solutions that benefit both customers and local communities.

expected to be completed by early 2026, this project marks an vital step toward ensuring long-term power reliability at Crowley’s San Juan facility.It also highlights how their new microgrid service can provide businesses with robust energy options that save costs while minimizing environmental impact.

This development comes on the heels of Crowley launching american Energy—the first U.S.-flagged vessel transporting LNG from mainland U.S. to Puerto Rico.Additionally,they are responsible for delivering over 94 million gallons of LNG each year thru their Truck Loading Facility in Peñuelas.

With over $550 million invested into enhancing trade within puerto Rico via LNG-powered ships and improved port infrastructure at Isla Grande Terminal in San Juan, Crowley is clearly committed to advancing logistics solutions on the island while promoting sustainability in its operations.
