COSCO Bulk carrier ran aground between Argentina and Uruguay

The 38,801 DWT bulk carrier Fu Xing Hai ran aground on the Martin Garcia Canal, between Argentina and Uruguay. The ship built in 2016, owned by COSCO Shipping Bulk of China, had problems at 105 km of the waterway on July 16.

According to the data provided by the privately owned shipping agency Agencia Maritima NABSA SA, the bulkero (bulk carrier) was obstructing the navigation in the canal, since traffic through the area where it ran aground is allowed for vessels with a draft of up to 7 meters The organization added that the ships that advance along the Argentina River had to navigate through the Emilio Miter channel.

At the time of the incident, the flag carrier of Hong Kong sailed from the Uruguayan port of Nueva Palmira with the port of Rotterdam, the Netherlands as the final destination.

In the morning hours, next to 09:30, the ship Fu Xing Hai was released from the vgrounding, the tide being 1.07 meters with an increasing trend in Conchillas.

To aid the grounded vessel, it was towed by 3 Uruguayan tugboats. After that the ship made normal navigation to Nueva Palmira

Nautical sources affirm that the ship was not affected, there was no material damage and neither to the environment.

Thereafter, the navigation path was unblocked. The Sub-Prefecture of Carmelo maintained a constant supervision of the tasks carried out, said sources consulted.
