DP World Chile announced that it will invest US $ 45 million in Puerto Lirquén (PLQ) in order to consolidate this concessionaire “as the largest multipurpose terminal in the Biobío Region and the only one with three STS Super Post Panamax cranes.”

According to what the company reported, “the investment is the product of a complete review of the operational design of the terminal and seeks to increase its productivity and capacity, with the purchase of three modern Super Post Panamax (STS) cranes with the scope for 22 rows, together with support equipment in the yard such as Reach Stackers and Port Trucks to accompany the increase in productivity at the dock, in addition to the incorporation of Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology, which will allow modern technology to accelerate the process and improve the Terminal security. Equipment suppliers will be selected in a bidding process in the coming weeks and the new cranes should be operating by the last quarter of 2020 “.

Roberto Zilleruelo, General Manager of DP World Chile explained that “this investment confirms the decision of DP World to boost the commercial offer it offers today on the West coast of South America and to be a long-term strategic facilitator for importers’ cargo and Chilean exporters. Productivity at the Puerto Lirquén docks will grow by 50%, which will mean increasing the terminal’s transfer capacity to meet the increase in future demand. ”

Zilleruelo added that “this investment confirms our decision to accompany the future growth that our exporting and importing clients of the Biobío Region project, also guaranteeing the shipping services that arrive at DP World Lirquén, a new standard in terms of productivity and security in operations “.
