Bengaluru Expands Its Metro Fleet to Meet Growing Demand

In India, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation has just placed an order for seven additional six-car metro trainsets from BEML, marking a significant step in the expansion of Phase 2 (Reach 6) of their metro network.

This order, valued at ₹4 billion and announced on March 28, falls under a framework agreement established in August 2023 that covers both supply and maintenance of rolling stock. With this latest addition, the total number of ordered trainsets now stands at an impressive sixty.

The innovative driverless trains are crafted by BEML’s talented engineering teams right in Bengaluru. They boast features like stainless steel exteriors, dual roof-mounted air conditioners per car for optimal comfort, CCTV surveillance for safety, and an advanced IP-based real-time passenger data system complete with dynamic LCD route maps.

BEML’s Chairman & Managing Director Shantanu Roy expressed enthusiasm about this new order: “This reinforces our dedication to delivering top-notch metro solutions made right here in India. Our focus is on cutting-edge technology that enhances safety and passenger experience while supporting the goverment’s vision of AatmaNirbhar Bharat or ‘self-reliant India.’ These state-of-the-art trainsets will play a crucial role in boosting the efficiency and reliability of Bengaluru’s metro system.”
