ABF Freight has agreed to purchase two former Yellow Corp. terminal leases for $11.5 million, according to bankruptcy court documents.
The ArcBest-owned LTL carrier is acquiring a leased property in Kent, Washington, for $4.5 million. At roughly 24,400 square feet, the site adds 60 doors to ABF Freight’s network.
In Aurora, Colorado, the company is picking up another leased property for $7 million. The nearly 33-acre property is much larger with 108 doors and a 61,500-square-feet facility.
The deal would more than quadruple the number of doors ABF Freight previously expected to add in the first half of 2025, according to its latest facility update. As part of its multiyear facility enhancement plan, the LTL carrier added 316 doors in the second half of 2024 through 20 projects that included remodels, expansions and new construction. It now has over 9,500 doors nationwide.
“Each renovation, remodel and expansion strengthens our operations and improves our employees’ experiences — providing spaces where they are proud to work and that enable us to serve customers better than ever,” said Matt Godfrey, ABF Freight president, in the facility update.
In spite of those upgrades, ABF Freight reported a decline in shipments and lower weights in Q4 like others in the industry due to ongoing industrial demand weakness. However, it did manage to secure an average price increase of 4.5% during the quarter.
ArcBest previously acquired shuttered Yellow properties in Des Moines, Iowa; Springdale, Arkansas; and Columbus, Ohio; as well as a terminal lease in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
