According to Alphaliner, on August 17, ZPMC delivered a larger ship-to-shore (STS) container crane to Terminal Portuario de Guayaquil (TPG), a container terminal in Ecuador. Chinese manufacturer ZPMC delivered the fully assembled gantry aboard the ZHEN HUA 23 specialized heavy-lift vessel.
The ZHEN HUA 23 left Shanghai in mid-April for Lirquen, where she unloaded two ship-to-shore cranes for the DP World terminal, and then continued on to Puerto Coronel, where one more unit was unloaded.
TPG Terminal Portuario Guayaquil is a privately owned terminal that has been operated since 2006 by Chile’s SAAM Group, a leading port operator and provider of towing services in Latin America and Florida. TPG is the port’s second largest container terminal after Contecon in Guayaquil, controlled by ICTSI, says Alphaliner.
TPG’s 660m quay is currently equipped with two 22-row gantry cranes and two 15-row units. With the new unit, the terminal will thus have three gantries of the largest type and a total of five. TGP’s gantry fleet is supported by three mobile harbor cranes. Currently, the largest ships handled at TPG Guayaquil on a regular basis are 13,000-14,000 teu units of CMA CGM, which serve the Far East – WCSA circuit of the French airline ‘ACSA 1’, adds Alphaliner.
Finally, Alphaliner mentions that the other main clients of the terminal are the Hapag-Lloyd, MSC, ONE and HMM lines that call at TPG with its joint service Far East – WCSA that has the brand ‘TPM / Asia Mexico Express’, ‘Aztec’ , ‘AX3’ and ‘NW3’ by their respective partners. Other customers include Wan Hai, PIL, Evergreen and COSCO shipping lines, which service the terminal with their Far East – WCSA – Loop 4.
