The world’s largest container ship, the 24,000 TEU Ever Ace, crossed the Suez Canal for the first time on August 28, 2021.

The container ship measures 400 meters in length and 61.5 meters in beam. It weighs about 235,000 tons and can carry 23,992 containers.

The vessel is the most recent addition to Evergreen Marine Corporation’s fleet. It was delivered to the company by South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) in July this year.

The Ever Ace crossed the Suez Canal on its maiden voyage to Europe bound for the port of Rotterdam. It had already set sail from the port of Taipei in August 2021.

The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) shared the moment on social media, and the captain and crew were greeted after the successful crossing.

The vessel is scheduled to arrive at the port of Rotterdam on September 4, 2021 at around 3 p.m., according to the port authority.

The Ever Ace’s Suez Canal crossing comes just two weeks after Evergreen’s container ship Ever Given transited the waterway for the first time after running aground in March 2021.

The Panamanian-flagged container ship arrived at its scheduled destination in Rotterdam on July 29, 2021, nearly four months after getting stuck in the Suez Canal.

World trade was disrupted as hundreds of ships had to wait to pass through the 193-kilometer-long canal. About 15% of the world’s shipping traffic transits the Suez Canal, the shortest sea route between Europe and Asia.
