Petroliam Nasional Bhd’s (Petronas) subsidiary, Petronas Trading Corporation Sdn Bhd (Petco), has created an alliance with Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation to jointly market and supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunker and related services through Petronas. A leading brand in the energy and maritime sectors in both Malaysia and Tokyo Bay, Japan.
“With this agreement, we are pursuing our ambition to build a complete LNG bunker network. It also underlines our commitment to offer our customers the best available and technologically proven solution to significantly reduce the environmental footprint of shipping,” said Shu Nakamura, general manager of Sumitomo’s department.
As LNG continues to play a key role as a next-generation fuel to meet the demand for bunker fuel in the maritime industry, both companies are committed to promoting this solution in the market by having the right infrastructures in place, ensuring supply availability and through continuous promotion to users.

Both companies currently have an LNG bunkering vessel on their books and are focused on contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gases, which are a major threat to the environment and especially to the seabed.
