COLOMBIA: Chemical Ship Runs aground in Bocas De Ceniza Barranquilla
The Colombian General Maritime Directorate (DIMAR), in coordination with other Authorities of the Port of Barranquilla, Colombia, carries out the procedures for attending to the emergency caused in the early hours of today (2:00 am), when the motor ship “NÓRDIC WOLVERINE” sailing from Cartagena , ran aground at the Bocas de Ceniza area.
The chemical tanker, 158.8 meters long, 22.74 meters wide and a draught of 7.8 meters; It was destined for the Portmagdalena port facility. Once the emergency was reported, the Port Authority of Barranquilla immediately activated the corresponding protocols for its attention, from the Maritime Traffic Control Station and on site, with the assistance of 4 tugs.
At the moment, the verification and evaluation of the state of the vessel, the ocean – atmospheric conditions, the risk levels, among others, continues; therefore, operations in the Port of Barranquilla are temporarily restricted pending the analysis of these circumstances through the human and technical capabilities of the CIOH Caribe in Dimar.
The Colombian Maritime Authority works with the different maritime and port guilds, in order to avoid affecting the marine environment and reestablish the maritime traffic of the port, within the framework of comprehensive maritime and river safety.
