The Sociedad Portuaria Buenaventura Terminal, during this year, has proposed to demonstrate the needs of the port sector in the region due to the lack of implementation of infrastructure works that improve the country’s competitiveness at the international level, in particular those they have to do with dredging works and that the formulas for carrying them out do not increase the obstacles to entering the bay.
For this reason, Juan Pablo Cepeda, General Manager of the Sociedad Portuaria Buenaventura Terminal, said it is important to make an urgent call to the Government to avoid further deepening the crisis, since traffic has already fallen 30% this year.
“If this situation does not have a prompt and efficient response, the largest and most important port operation in Colombia would be irreversible and the situation will be much more critical than we are today; This will inevitably have a negative impact on the social and economic development of the country.”
In addition, Cepeda ensures that although there is a proposal by the Government to execute this operation, this includes the collection of a toll, which would be a blow to the entire operation of the area and therefore to the country’s competitiveness.
The Sociedad Portuaria Buenaventura Terminal continues to implement its improvement and investment plan estimated at US $ 449 million at a term of 2034, of which 94% of the procurement works are carried out. In 2018 alone, US $ 83 million was invested in infrastructure to offer added value to its international clients.
